5 step process to write a Personal Career Marketing Plan:

SWOT Analysis.

    1. Strength – Identify your personal competitive advantage over other candidates seeking the position you want.
    2. Weakness – You have to be completely honest and objective with yourself and identify your competitive disadvantages.
    3. Opportunity - Where is your opportunity to shine, to be innovative, to be creative, and to perform at a higher level?  Career fields are dynamic change is SOP, are you prepared to adapt?
    4. Threat - What are the obstacles in your way and what can sabotage the opportunity you are seeking?  Changing markets and obsolete skills and qualifications. Industries disappearing and restructuring.

Targeting.

    1. Identify your target market.
    2. Conduct a situation review.

                                                              i.      Thinking.

                                                            ii.      Feeling.

                                                          iii.      Worry.

                                                           iv.      Fear.

    1. Positioning.

                                                              i.      Relative advantage. 

                              ii.   Extensive research on target companies

Frame of Reference.

    1. Highlight the benefits over the features.
    2. Demonstrate good judgment.
    3. Be aware of male vs. female persona and levels of sophistication.
    4. Seek affinity points.

Frame Your Promise.

    1. Establish personal brand.

                                                              i.      Words.

                                                            ii.      Language.

                                                          iii.      Ideas.

                                                           iv.      Creativity.

    1. Establish personal brand character.

                                                              i.      Open to change.

                                                            ii.      Adaptable.

                                                          iii.      Value.
